activity 3

Philosophy Reflection Cues (Activity 3)

Address the following questions to help further form your educational technology philosophy of education/training/profession/personal.

Why am I a teacher/trainer/student/in the profession and I in? What motivated me to select my career path that includes technology?

I am a teacher, because I love watching children grow and knowing that I had something to do with it. IK knew that I always wanted to work with children, where I could help in some way and make a difference in their lives. At first, I thought about working for CPS, but it would be to emotionally draining and that is when I made up my mind that I wanted to teach. Teachers still make a huge difference in their student’s lives and that is why I teach. I want to make a difference.

Why do I teach/train/study/work the way I do?

I teach the way I do, because this is how I was taught and because I know how important teaching can be. I love to teach and it shows through my teaching. I believe that every classroom should be student-centered, encourage real-world application, and higher-thinking should be applied. I also believe in creativity and self-expression through work. I was blessed enough to have had most of my teachers teach me using this same philosophy.

What is my personal definition of a great teacher/trainer/student and what experience formed that definition?

My definition of a great teacher is someone who grows daily with their students and respects them as individuals and people. A great teacher goes to workshops where they can learn how to better their profession and they learn new ways to teach. I received my ideas of a perfect teacher from the workshops that I have attended and my own ideas.

What do I want learners to gain from my classroom/training session/in the workplace?

I want my students to be successful and gain knowledge that will not only get them through the 1st grade, but prepares them for future grades as well. I want my students to also learn subjects in which they can apply to their everyday life. I want them to be able to be creative and engage in higher-order thinking.

Why do I choose the teaching/training/study/work strategies/methods that I use?
I chose these methods, because I agree with these methods and because I was taught these methods at UTD where I received my bachelor’s degree in education, plus all of the classes I have taken at Texas A&M Commerce.

Why do I select particular assignments/experiences for learners?

I select assignments that push my student’s to think outside the box and to use higher order thinking. I also use certain activities that encourage creativity and real life applications.

What synonyms for “teacher” would accurately describe what I believe myself to be, or what I would like to be?

I would like to be a facilitator, coach, leader and trainer.

How do I incorporate technology and how am I an Informator?
My students use computers during group time, I use computers during the lessons, through math games or activities; I use elmos in my lessons along with the over head projector.
