Focused Free Write (Activity 1)
Pause just long enough to begin thinking about the questions below. Don’t struggle over form or correctness. Don’t cross out words. Write as fast as you can for five to 7 minutes.
Consider your entire educational experience. Who was your best teacher? What made them the best?
My best teacher was my 5th grade teacher, because not only was she a family friend, but she believed everyone could succeed in school as well as life. I went to a private school in Lubbock, TX and she was kind. She wasn’t young; in fact she was quit old. Her assignments were fun and creative, especially for those days. She didn’t believe in worksheets; instead, her activities included spelling bees, writing assignments that encouraged creativity, math and language art games. She used art through all subjects and she didn’t even teach art, She was defiantly a head of herself as far as the innovated ways she taught. Creativity was aloud back then and she encouraged it as much as possible. She encouraged us to also be kids and while school was important, she taught us the balance of life. Years later, when I first went away to college at Lubbock Christian University, I looked her up and was saddened to learn that she had died about 6 months ago.
